Online Photo Sharing
Online photo sharing has become a way to easily and rapidly share your photos with family, friends and even the world!
When you use online services to share your photos, you can:
- Receive feedback from like-minded photographers.
- Easily share photos with family and friends from around the world.
- Create a backup of your photos.
There are many more reasons than the ones that I’ve given you above but you will find that online services will be of benefit to you.
Receive Feedback
Since you are reading this site, I would suggest that one of the primary reasons that you share your photos online is for the purpose of improving yourself as an artist and photographer.
There are many, many communities that exist for the purpose of learning digital photography. Among my favorites are:
- Flickr.com (opens in a new browser window)
- PBase.com (opens in a new browser window)
These two are wonderful communities of like-minded photographers who share tips and techniques for the improvement of photography. Before considering other services, please visit these two sites to see if they provide value to you as a photographer.
PBase.com has a different crowd than Flickr.com. PBase is older, has a less flashy interface and is geared more toward the technical aspects of photography.
Their database of camera bodies, lenses and others is invaluable to an artist and photographer.
Flickr, on the other hand, is mostly geared toward sharing of photos. It has a slick interface and you are able to easily share photos and get them seen by a very large and diverse set of users.
Personally, if I am looking for a specific way to take a photo, or for specific poses, I will head to PBase. If I want a bit of diversion and some surprise, I will visit Flickr.
Both have their uses and both are wonderful for the dSLR photographer. Online photo sharing with a like-minded group of photographers is valuable because you will receive feedback regarding your artistic and photographic skills.
This is a fantastic way to rapidly improve yourself as a photographer.
Share Photos With Family And Friends
With digital SLR cameras becoming more affordable, sharing your photos online has become a necessity.
When you share your photos online, no longer will you need to send large email attachments.
Instead, you can upload your photos to a photo service and send a short email to friends and family.
Depending on the service you use, your family and friends will be able to order prints without having to trouble you.
It is a fast and convenient way to ensure that your photos are being viewed by the people you care about the most.
Online Photo Backup
Digital photos reside on your computer and may be prone to the consequences of computer failure. In short, you may lose all the hundreds of thousands of photographs.
One way to ensure that you have a backup of your most valuable photos is to keep it on an online photo sharing website. Before use online services for this reason, please read the user agreement carefully.
Some online providers have agreements whereby you lose copyright and other valuable rights! Please read and re-read the agreement before you make use of these services.
Love your camera. Love yourself. Love your photos.
