Nikon D40 dSLR Is Only 6.1 Megapixels

Though the Nikon D40 dSLR only has 6.1 megapixels, it creates beautiful images that can be easily be printed to large sizes.

If you aren’t going to be printing large, poster-sized images, then this camera is a good value.

Among other digital SLR cameras in its price range, the Nikon D40 has the fewest megapixels. At first glance, this may seems like a bad thing but I didn’t find it so.

Megapixels are helpful to make large prints. I have successfully made large, 20×30″ prints from JPEGs produced by this camera. The results were amazing.

Compared to a point-and-shoot camera, the Nikon has a much larger sensor. This means that even though it “only” has 6.1 megapixels, your photos and prints are much cleaner than an equivalent in the point-and-shoot models.

The image of the flower is one taken by a Nikon D40 and printed out at a full 20×30″. The image here is cropped to a square but the D40′s 3008×2000 pixel size lends itself very well to a 20×30″ print.
